In December 2021, SNF awarded a grant to Comox Valley Pregnancy Care Centre (BN 889587267RR0001) in Courtenay for use in purchasing emergency supplies to support diaper need, food security, and other items of essential importance for infants and new moms. In May 2022, after funds were expended, we found concerning information about CVPCC about which we immediately sought verification; upon hearing from staff there and further evaluation of CVPCC’s practices in May 2022, we do not have confidence that CVPCC represented itself accurately during the grant process, that it provides accurate health information to its clients or to the community it purports to serve, or that it meets our standards for BC grant recipients. While the supplies provided to individuals through this grant are critical needs in support of infant health, we deeply regret that we provided those supplies in support of an organization so gravely in conflict with our broader positions on public health, health access and equity, and non-profit organization accountability. We have communicated our concerns to CVPCC and will not renew support to it or any organization affiliated or aligned with Pregnancy Care Canada. Further information on our findings is available upon request.
