If you’re eligible to vote, registering to cast your ballot in your local, state and national elections might be the most important act you take.

Remember:

• you need to register to vote in order to vote.  Find your state’s voter registration information here (Canadian in Canada?  Find your voter registration information here);
• you can help others learn about registering to vote and register voters, even in high school!  Many states allow youth representatives to work at the polls, a great way to meet members of your local community, and organizations are available to help set up voter registration drives in your high school;
• you have a right to vote a provisional (sometimes called a “questioned”) ballot, even if you’re unsure about your eligibility or are in the wrong polling location – don’t give up!  Make sure to check your polling place and registration before you go;
• as long as you are in line when the polls are scheduled to close, you have a right to vote;
• you have a right to be safe from harassment while in line and while voting;
